I lived in Wichita Falls in the late 2000s and was briefly part of the Starlight Observers League (SOL), but I felt like it was probably on its way out as a cohesive group. I'm not sure why, because the skies outside of WF are amazing. It might still be around in some form... Through the club at the time, I did manage to link up with an organization called the Three Rivers Foundation for the Arts and Sciences. They run the Comanche Springs Astronomy Campus near Crowell, Texas. It's a couple hours drive from WF, but well worth the trip if you get a chance to go. They have regular star parties and I believe they are always looking for people to help out.
