I chose to not add this to the numerous Betelgeuse threads that are running.  I've watched with interest the dimming and the  speculation about the causes of the dimming.  Now Betelgeuse is brightening and I am telling myself that I can tell that it's brighter.  Am I really seeing a difference or am I just being influenced by reading about the brightening???

I am the last person you'd want to ask for a magnitude estimate on anything.  I'm a lifetime member of the AAVSA (American Association of Variable Star AVOIDERS)...

I think I'm just imagining that I can tell a difference.

"Based on these and additional observations, Betelgeuse has definitely stopped dimming and has started to slowly brighten. Thus this 'fainting' episode is over but additional photometry is needed to define the brightening phase."

I understand your concern. All you can do is trying to be objective. It should become easier and easier to go with the mainstream, as it is brightening wink.gif

We all like to think we can decide for ourselves, but as social beings it will take us only so far.

Maybe the Betelgeuseians have stopped sweeping the floor during their spring cleaning.
