Finally got to piece it all together last night during a rare clear spell to to get this shot of M42. My very first image! Sorry for the annoying black lines in the image. It was the free trial software that put them there.

Details:

HEQ5

SV 80 access

Canon D6 (unmodified) w/field flattener

30 subs/30 secs (unguided)

ISO 1600

kStars/Ekos on Rasp Pi4 on iMac running 10.13.6

Nebulosity for stacking and Photoshop for processing

I welcome any feedback good or bad.

Excellent capture and processing! It's too bad your software did this to your very first image…it would be worthy of print without the lines.

What software would do such a thing? There are so many freeware/trialware options out there that I'm shocked that a software provider would do such a thing. I just saw these on another poster's image today who was trying to identify the source…

Terrific first image! Congrats!

Also, congrats on not following the masses, and instead using KStars/Ekos and a Raspberry Pi. :) You can see from my signature we share some of the same (or similar) equipment.

I am really liking kStars/Ekos. I keep my scope inside but set up time is fast. Cable management is easy with the Pi. And best of all most of the night I am inside in the comfort of my living room controlling everything!

for a first, it is very pretty.
and even if it weren't your first it would still be pretty.

Appreciate the feedback so far. On a target like this if I done say 60 subs (twice as many) @ 90 secs each would my image be a lot better?
