Time flies.

One of the greatest tenor saxophonists...

Same rules.  Please take a minute to read them.

1) The basic guideline for this thread is to list ads and auctions that others may be interested in. It is not intended to replace CL or eBay as a site to find all possible classic ads. Please keep your posts to actual "classic" equipment. If you have to ask if it's classic, it probably isn't.

2) Do not post your own ads or the ads of your friends, this includes items you may be trying sell for someone else. This is considered sale promotion in the open forums and is a violation of the CN TOS. Please post your own ads in the Swap & Shop forum or the Cloudy Nights Classifieds.

3) We request that you do not post photos from ads. If you must have some reference to a photo in the post, post a link to the photo, not the photo itself.

4) Do not post the entire ad text, or large blocks of it, without permission from the author.

5) Concentrate on the item for sale, and not the seller.

6) Although not mandatory, when posting ads, including a short description of the item is a courtesy to others who don't have time to click on every link. It also provides some data when the link is no longer active. Be a little specific.

Here's an example of a good post:

4" f/8 Jaegers OTA on eBay. LINK

Poor post:  4" telescope. LINK

7) Please post a live link to the item. Do not post "PM me for link". We realize that this is an honest attempt to prevent non-CN member flippers from finding the posts, but most of the hard-core flippers are CN members already. Flippers look for bargains, they won't be outbidding you at top-dollar because they won't make any money on the item. Most of the time you are outbid, it is by a fellow Classics CN member.

8) Please limit yourself to one "found" post per hour. If you find more items within that time, just edit your post and add them, or wait until you have finished looking at all the ad sites and post them all at once.

9) Short discussions can take place about the items listed. When quoting a post, edit the quoted post to include only the part you are replying to. Do not quote an entire string of replies. If not quoting, make a note of what your reply pertains to, so others won't misinterpret your reply. Please keep these discussions limited to the actual items posted. If the discussion becomes protracted or the noise level gets too high, these posts will be moved to a new thread. Further comments on the item should then be made in the new thread.

10) Ads that are odd or have humor may find a better home in the Favorite Used Telescope Ad thread.
Posts that do not follow these posting guidelines or are for items not appropriate for this thread may be removed at moderator discretion.
Buyer Beware- CN is not responsible for any of the ads or auctions posted here or their content. There are some scams floating around, so do your homework before pursuing any ad.

Is there any real value in a Tecnar besides it being a neat desk ornament?

Chuck, your historical apparently isn't my historical LOL. You must have missed the Moonwatch Scope-Tulip Mania IIRC promoted by CN Classics past guru Preston Smith! Anything Moonwatch was being bid up with CN classic telescope cheerleading well beyond $200. Another Tulip moment was around anything Nippon Kogaku sponsored by Clint Whitman's (Caveman) enthusiasm for such and the venerable Sears 6345 craze led and fed by John Siple (Habsburg 8). Except for the Moonwatch Scopes, I fell for the others rather hard...repeatedly

I missed that I guess.  The 816 with box I have now was about $120, but a few lately with a bit of wear have gone for less than a hundred.

I've gotten swept up on a few, myself though.

That Meade GEM was a Meade flop back around 1987 to compete with the SP -C8. Never sold well.

Somebody's gonna get a great deal on that Meade fixer-upper.  But...  I wonder about a 10" Newt on a StarFinder mount.  Mine carry 8" Newts & 6" F8 refractors well, but my 25# scopes are at its upper limits.

Mamma Mia!  That's one heck of a BIN.  I paid 2x that for my 5" F10 D&G achromatic OTA 30+ years ago.

8" was fine on that mount. 10 is pushing it.

I can imagine a 10" having some issues.  MY (your old) 826 OTA is stable up to 400x on the StarFinder + short pedestal -- jitter-free focusing & very good tracking.  Were those 10" Newts F6, too?

Ah!  Okay.  A short 10" Newt shouldn't overload the SF.  But... the coma!  F4.5 means RFT to me; whereas, my 6" & 8" Newts really are all-object scopes.

That same scope was useless on the 826 mount.  They were F/4.5.

My 10"/f4.5 setup for visual still weighs in at 30lbs with rail, rings, finder, etc. That's why it rides exclusively on an eq6. It's great fun with 2" wide-field ep's. I think I remember reading about those SF mounts back in the 90's and the consensus was that the mounts were fine up to the 10" model but the 12" and 16" eq's were underbuilt for their payloads.

Correction: After looking back through the '97 ads in Astronomy mag it appears Meade only provided the 12.5" with a Dob mount. The 6", 8" & 10" EQ's seem to have all shared the same mount. The mount was probably fine for the 6 & 8 but may have struggled a bit with the 10". So much for my keen memory...tongue2.gif

This little Carton frac has been shared a few times in the past couple of months. The seller has lowered the price and it may finally be a palatable cost, especially if you are local.

great price if great shape.  I have mine, have them all except the 80mm which never excited me. I could use an original box for the 60mm.
