We encountered the above phrase, this week, in the caption of an image taken with one of our APO refractors. We felt it apropos for our hobby as it succinctly conjures the connection between amateur astronomy and our current moment in world history.
We started a virtual conversation with Los Angeles Astronomical Society member Bill Allen, the writer of these words, and he told us about starting in astronomy, start on imaging, and his philosophical approach to astro-photography.
“Doing astro-photography and viewing is a lot like surfing: you really have to connect to the natural world, and you have to be patient for days that are rewarding.”
