oh no! 

I can hear  them now "run for the hills!"

but with proper care you can use NV for some solar uses

 

Note: I only use my older gen2 low performance tubes 

you must remember not to turn on device until seated with proper filters

Note even though QE is very low at these freq(UV) the signal is strong (think 1% of 100 million dollars is still a lot of money)

 

in this case i use it to pick off proper element in UV part of spectrum in my SHG(spectroheliograph)

normally invisible to most humans especially the old ones

close in lines are pretty sharp

you can also use with regular caK scope to look at full disk 

 

my next  test is to swap out grating with IR grating and see if I can tune in to 854IRT calcium lines
