I personally want to try astro camera with UNFILTERED chip in the UV solar spectrum (like Ca-K) to see what, if anything, I am missing when compared to visual observing. I think that set up would work much better than using NV. However, looking into IR Sun spectrum is an interesting idea. so far, I've used NV successfully with methane IR filter on planets. Methane line is close to 900nm. ~ 900nm seems to be the NV limit. So NV + white solar filter + grating from 700-900 nm could be interesting test.
