Has anyone made mods on the 1st Gen to improve some of its aspects? Does it really need a dew heater near its sensor window for instance? anyone made a DIY one? photos would be appreciated!

You would only need a dew heater if you had a TEC.  Gen 1 wasn't cooled.

Ah yes, I have the cooled 1st gen, sorry for not mentioning it. I previously made a circular dew band with resistors around the window, but it couldn't fit when it was threaded, it was too thick. Would wrapping a band around the top end of the cam near the window be as effective?

ZWO makes a specific dew heater for the 1600.

Yes I already know that model. I was looking for a specific DIY design, maybe with resistors, an alternative of some sort to have some fun while quarantined if possible.
