I have an OMNI 150 XLT reflector telescope.

One photo shows the top of the scope.(7 1/4" between screws)

The other photo shows what I am planning to purchase so as to attach accessories.

1) Is this the right type of item to buy (Vixen Style Universal Dovetail)?

2) If so, is the bigger size better (14" instead of 11") for an extra $5.00

Or, am I on the wrong track here? If so, please give some other recommendations.

Thanks,

Larry

No, the second item is the Vixen Rail. You should put a Vixen Base on the scope. The rail fits into the base. The base contains the clamping mechanism to hold the rail. You buy additional rails to put on various other pieces of equipment to use in the base. That way all your equipment is interchangeable. A larger size of dovetail combo is the Losmandy style which is designed to carry more weight because it is bigger.

...and if you put a second Vixen rail on top, you can piggyback any number of other accessories just by screwing the right clamp(s) to em.
