Great work!  Any chance you could share the files for your 3D print mods?  I'd love to give this a try with mine as well!

Hi and sorry for the delay! Work has had me a prisoner and it's been busy to get to this post. I posted the tube rings on thingiverse this morning for ya!

Hope this helps!

They dent easy.  Mine is dent free so far.

Yes, also heavy, expand and contract, create tube currents, and collect dew like crazy.

But they sure do look nice!  In the 90s I always admired the glossy white paint job on the little Meade 4500 while exploring "Natural Wonders" in the mall.

Here's mine on a heavier mount. The mirror has been chemically silvered (not aluminized). Straps made from lumber bands.

Tom,

Like the use of banding material for straps.  It has a high tinsel strength  and easy to work with.  I have an Orion 12in  Intelliscope Dob I wish to arrange for mounting onto my OGS EQ mount. Do have saddles that fit the tube, but have not decided upon material for rings.  I believe you just solve it for me.  Looked at some stainless banding, but cost and malleability characteristics didn't jive.

Thanks,

Jesse

Hi Jesse, here are some pics of how I did my bands.  I spot welded them on each end and used barrel nuts but you could drill holes im the strap and use small bolts, hooks, plates, or whatever.  Check home depot or lumber yards for the metal strapping.  Home depot only uses plastic strapping except for one or two products that they typically keep outside near the front door of the lumber area. When I get a chance I'll go see which product it is.  I walked around and asked a few people until one agreed to cut the straps off for me. Zero dollars.  I can spot weld them for you if needed.

I purchased a roll of stick on felt from Amazon for the inside of the straps.  They work great!  I 3d printed the saddle and applied felt to it also.
