The penultimate images from this series: 3-24-2010, strong shadows cast by the clouds in the west ...

and how they traversed the sky and appeared in the east!

Now for the piece de resistance: not good enough the sky showing off with those amazing shadows traversing the sky on 3-24-2010, but it ALSO sported a rainbow!!!

Found another one..  Its the Partial Solar Eclipse of April 8, 2005 taken with a Fujifim Finepix 2650. I remember it was cloudy at home and I climbed into the car and drove 45min until I found a clear area between the clouds and got the photo. I didnt use any  filter at that time

Centering now on Scorpius. From September 2010, Angel Fire, NM. Shorter exposure, but the red of Antares is unmistakable. Also, light from the stars is pretty much not diminished even so close to the horizon! You can also make out M7 and M4.

Also, light from the stars is pretty much not diminished even so close to the horizon! You can easily perceive Corona Austrinus as proof of this. And again, you can make out M7.

The following are some of the afocal shots of the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter that I took on August 27, 2016 through my 101mm f/5.4 Tele Vue refractor (1), an 8" f/6 Orion XT8 Dob (2), the 5" f/5 finder scope (3) of the Naylor Observatory's 17" f/15 classical Cassegrain, and the 17" classical Cassegrain (4).  Jupiter (above) and Venus (below) are inverted in these images.  Both planets exhibited the effects of atmospheric prismatic dispersion to a remarkable degree as they sank very low into the western sky.

Great memories Dave!

Here is a wide view and a close up of the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter from Myrtle Beach, SC, on 8-27-16 at 8:07 PM EDT.

Now: Andromeda (M31 clearly visible), Cassiopeia, and Perseus. Still Angel Fire NM, still dinky Lumix, still Sept 2010. I **think** a 30-second exposure.

Here's how amazingly wondrous the skies were: This night as well as two others, M31 was readily apparent to the naked eye even when only a few degrees above the horizon!!

Here's another version of the Andromeda image, either spoiled or embellished by that BRIGHT LIGHT ...

I'd driven to another view site and again set the dinky Lumix up on the hood of my car for a time exposure.

M31 still easily visible, skies were superb!
