Here's a better version, I think a longer exposure? Andromeda, M31, yada yada ...

Super skies (Angel Fire, NM, elevation 8000', Bortle 2), stars pretty much not diminished even at the horizon! You can see stars reflected in the hood of the car ;) .

I did drive about 10 miles out to Bortle 1 zone and pulled off the road. Milky Way cast a shadow. Clouds appeared as dark holes against the sky. probably would still be standing there except this unearthly shriek scared the crap out of me and I jumped in the car and drove back. I'd never heard an Elk before!!

An image from Angel Fire NM in September 2010, but the same image added to itself IIRC 5 times. Milky way in Cygnus came out. Nowhere near how impressive it was visually though ;) .

Now looking in the opposite direction - shadows spanned the sky, and there was also an added bonus: a rainbow!

Here's a hand-held shot of the conjunction of the Moon and Venus that I took with a Canon PowerShot SD980 IS point-and-shoot camera.

Lovely grouping of (clockwise): the Moon, Mars, Saturn, and Spica, on 8-21-12. Passing clouds only enhanced the scene!

Here's an afocal photo of the clair-obscur illumination effect known as the Quincunx that I took on 5/18/2018 using my iPhone 6s and the ASH 17" f/15 classical Cassegrain.
