Hi,

I have the 72ED Evostar doublet refractor and Skywatcher claims they made this adapter linked here to thread the 80ED reducer to use with the 72ED since they were too lazy to make a dedicated reducer for the scope. Well I tried to use it with 55mm back focus behind the reducer and now there's not enough inward travel to reach focus with the ZWO 183mm pro. Has anybody gotten this to work? I'm starting to hate Skywatcher, I mean hate them. Why claim it works if it doesn't? I think they are just trying to get suckers to buy more stuff that won't work together. I mean do you need 55mm on the back side of the reducer? Maybe if that wasn't required it might reach focus. If nobody has tried it, I hope Agena takes the reducer back.

Evidently it only fits the updated shorter bodied version of the 72ED, not the original version. There is a thread on this adapter in the Stargazers Lounge forum. Explained here on First Light Optics web page.

Perfect.

Thanks. I saw the review and the note, but I wasn't sure if mine was like the reviewer. I was using the orion flattener, but I thought it wasn't working, so I thought I'd try this, but maybe the back focus was wrong on the orion piece. I went back to it last night.

The FLO page says it doesn't work withe the OVL flattener, but someone on the forum I mentioned says it does.

Aha, thanks again. I've seen the very long thread when the "72ED" reducer was announced but this one is new to me. I'll have to look at mine and see if it works. Having a rotator might be good.
