Hi,

There are amateurs that gather meaningful data observing H-alpha or H-beta profiles of Be stars with a Llhires lll spectroscope, but can meaningful data of these stars be obtained with an Alpy 600?

Thanks

Dick

Hi Dick

High resolution is needed to be able to resolve the profile, needed to positively identify a star as Be and follow the evolution of disc formation  but low resolution can be useful to monitor Be stars to detect the appearance or disappearance of emission and there are many low resolution spectra in the BeSS database.  Low resolution is also useful to identify potential Be star candidates for high resolution follow up, particularly the fainter targets which can be difficult to reach at high resolution eg

Cheers

Robin

On the ARAS BeAm website you can see which stars need spectra of any resolution

There are a lot of faint stars there that have not been checked for several years if ever which could make nice low resolution targets
