The July 2020 Challenge is now open. The target is M16 The Eagle Nebula. To reduce the number of stickies, please submit your entry to this thread.

For those having troubles locating the target here is a post that will help locate near by objects.

The Rules will remain pretty simple:

      Your Equipment

      Your Data, Captured This Season

      Your Processing

      One Entry Per Member

      Only post your FINAL image

To increase participation over such a diverse group, the winner will be selected by random drawing. Please feel free to start a thread requesting guidance on your entry prior to submitting it, the whole purpose of this challenge is to learn and compare on a common target. Entries must be submitted by midnight eastern time on July 31, and I will try to announce the winner sometime on August 1.

Note: If I am late announcing, gently nudge one of the moderators in a private note, it helps.

Please display an image in your post, not just a link!!

I hope everyone has fun with this one, and with that,

Let The Games Begin

**Disclaimer** - If the selected winner does not reply and pick a target with-in 3 days of the winner being announced, the Mods will then select the next target.

Actually just processed this object on July 1st.

Messier 16 imaged with Explore Scientific Essentials 127mm refractor and ZWO 1600 camera using ZWO Ha,R,G,B filters. Image capture using Voyager over 6 nights in June 2020, and image processing in PixInsight. Had hoped to do more, but with the Moon and the weather lately, decided to wrap it up.

46 x 900 seconds exposures in Ha.
22 x 120 seconds exposure in Red.
24 x 120 seconds exposure in Green.
25 x 120 seconds exposure in Blue.

Only thing I did different from my normal generic process, is I used the Ha as the luminance channel as I liked the way the image looked.

Thanks,
Lynn

The night before I was working on getting my my C8E, .7x reducer, oag guide cam focused together.  I shot a star field with my t5i and the stars looked pretty good for not using guiding.  I pointed at the eagle nebula and took a 60 second frame and upon inspection the stars were pretty round for unguided and only having a guestament polar align.  So I clicked off 11 frames total and went back to figuring out phd2.  One of my goals that night was to drift align for the first time.

I'm looking forward to a night once I have everything figured out and I can take some long guided exposures.  I'll use my 7D MkII which is much cleaner.  I used the T5i because I don't have a lot of use for it and didn't mind leaving it attached to the telescope.   I leave things set up in the garage and pull the mount to the doorway to experiment.  I made some HDPE coasters for the tripod legs, makes it easy to move the gear in and out.

The Eagle Nebula (M16) and Pillars of Creation

Newborn stars form in the Eagle Nebula (M16). Gravitationally contracting in pillars of dense gas and dust, the intense radiation from these young stars causes the surrounding materal to boil away.

ZWO asi1600mm-pro, Celestron 8" RASA, asi290mc in an Evoguide 50 guiding a Skywatcher EQ8-R Pro.
Hubble Palette
105 x 120" Baader 7nm Ha
118 x 120" Baader 8nm Sii
190 x 120" Baader 8.5 Oiii

My first HSO image and second narrowband image. Processed using darkarchon's new EZ Processing Suite in PixInsight, the channels were combined with SHO-AIP and stretched via MaskedStretch. NoiseReduction was handled via scripts, with SCNR used to remove a bit of green (I'd dare call the original combination Supergreen), HDRMultiscaleTransformation and LocalHistogramEqualization used to level things out and add detail, and curves used to adjust brightness and saturation. After star reduction via MultiscaleTransformation I ran DarkStructureEnhance to bring out the darker details in the image.
