Trying to shed a little light on scope availability, the AT102ED and AT102EDL at least - I have the 102ED on order and was thinking about cancelling that order and going instead with the 102EDL so called Astronomics (last Monday, 2/8, before his latest general email of 2/11) to see when they expected the EDL to be available.  Mike picked up the phone on the second ring(!) and was as nice and informative as usual.  He confirmed to me that the ED should arrive late this month or early next month noting that customs is taking longer than normal.  Of course I'm hoping that the reason why his email of 2/11 didn't mention the 102ED is what Brian T speculated above i.e. that they're all spoken for.

Regarding the 102EDL, Mike was able to persuade me to stick to the ED since I'm a visual observer.  He told me that the EDL would be available, best guess, in about 60 days and sent me an email on 2/10 confirming that timeframe.

Cheers,

Ty

I just ordered an AT80ED from Astronomics last Friday I'm really looking forward to getting it. I plan on pairing it with an Orion Versago II mount. The only refractor I can compare it to are memories of my first scope an a Orion Observer 70 Alt-Az which while not bad for the price, the AT80ED should better then it was.

Wow, talked you out of a more expensive scope, very commendable. Can’t wait for my 102ED to arrive too. I’ve got a nice new collection of eyepieces waiting for it.

This is why I try to buy from Astronomics as much as possible!  You just feel confident you're getting a square deal with Mike and company (Ken is good too!)

Did anyone else get a email from Astronomics talking about wonderful winter weather they got hit with? They shouldn't feel to bad the same winter storm system that hit them got me and buried us Ohioans in a foot of snow with 4 feet tall snow drifts! Cant forget the single digit temps we had for a few days. lol.gif

Received Mike's email. Yikes did they get hammered! I am now heading back to AZ from CO. Supposedly the state is in for another big one (CO that is). I am glad I got out today.

Yep. Hopefully any scopes delayed in shipping are sitting somewhere nice and dry.

Well I bailed out on my AT115EDT... found a WO Megrez 120ED F/7.5 doublet with FPL53 glass in the classifies and decided to get it instead (Thanks SteveG). Should have it next week and the forecast is looking good after the winter storms we just dealt with, it's going to be a great visual scope I hope. Good luck to y'all still waiting, may they arrive sooner than later.

Clear skies

Brian

I just ordered an AT72EDII this evening. I think the wait will be worthwhile. I'm still in my cloudy season and won't be back out observing until May.

I actually did not do these calculations before but nice to see that I was correct about the At102edl filling the gap below my 180mm mak, not even any overlap using the baader Zoom stops.

Prime focus magnification as follows

At102edl

24=29x

20=36x

16=45x

12=60x

8=89x

———————

180mak

24=112x

20=130x

16=169x

12=225x

8=338x

i may never need a Barlow or focal reducer again lol

Hi everyone! I'm back on the list and in in waiting again...

After using my AT130EDT for a few months now I also pulled the trigger on an AT72EDii a couple of weeks ago. Mike confirmed there was enough in the coming shipment. I keep hearing enough good things of it so am very excited.lol.gif

I'm planning to use mostly for AP, both for wider fields of nebulae and as a better guidescope for the big boy. The images I get from the 130 are so clean, sharp and flat that the limiting factor now is guide accuracy from my crap guide scope from Amazon.

Congrats! Hope you'll enjoy it and may the wait for clear skies not be too long once it arrives!

I got mine from the last shipment in the end of 2020 and have been very happy so far. What do you plan to use it for?

I may do the reverse - I got my AT72EDII a few months back and am back to contemplating the AT130EDT. Haven't quite pulled the trigger yet...smile.gif

I had to call in to Astronomics today to reconfigure my order situation, I just wanted to mention that a gentleman named Royce I was on the phone with was a top notch guy. I'm sure they're getting an astronomic amount of phone calls and this man deserves a kind word in my opinion, Thanks Royce :)

Any word on AT125EDLs shipping ? I don't want to add to their phone noise if we already have info.
