Hi Lucien,

I updated to Omega about 3 weeks ago and notice an Omega-1 came out a few days ago and Omega-2 today.

I cant see anything about the changes in the -1 and -2 versions. Help about looks much the same and the update files only have the executable, no change log.

Is there much to know?

Cheers

Hello Phil,

You can use 'your' OMEGA, no problems. Differences are mainly in 2 methods :  Deconvolution Wiener and Deconvolution Richadson-Lucy.

When there are important updates, the name of the version will change.

New version will be 'PROXIMA' but not before 2021 may be ?

Cheers,

Lucien

Very good job with clear and simple explanations !
Thank you very much for all users ! smile.gif

Can I put the link on the website and what name do I indicate as author ?

( It is convenient to use the mouse wheel to adjust values in spinboxes : sometimes easier than sliders for accurate adjustments )

( there is an Offset and Gain in Wavelets dialog )

Best regards,

Lucien

Lucien, technical question.... I know very little about programming but I am considering buying a new laptop soon, Astrosurface is it’s primary use so I I’m looking at an I7 processor to maximize speed during stacking. What I don’t know is if the program can take advantage of graphics cards (gpu) ..... needed to ask because gaming laptop prices are much higher based on what GPU they use so I need to know if I should take that in to account or just concentrate on main processes and ram memory

Hello;

No need a gamer computer. I7 processor is ok, 8Go of RAM or more and no specific graphic card for AstroSurface.

Thanks for the advice, was able to find a cyber Monday deal on a hp spectre 15.6 4K oled with a 11th gen i7, 16gig ram, it just has the Intel integrated graphics so that kept the price down to reasonable, thinking it should help a lot with my larger stacking operations and maybe that big oled screen will help with my focusing too

Thanks for the pressie Luciien.

This software is getting better every time you release it and its now all I use.

Nearly every time I go to the Wavelets option for a new release it looks different and this time there is that Gama adjustment now which can be useful.

Cheers

Yes, it is all well done and for me incremental improvements are welcome. It helps me cope with change smile.gif

Deep Sky in 2021 will be timely for me because with the reduction in planetary options, and the arrival of a caravan in 2 months, I plan to be in much darker skies come April.

Cheers and all the best for the New year.

Just an update on the spectre i7 tigerlake 16gig ram oled, fine machine, runs pretty cool and I tested an old ser of Mars and stacked 10,000 frames... average time seems to be around 3 minutes.... so substantial improvement over my old laptop that was taking over 20, I do think the oled will help a lot also since the blacks are true black, makes it easier to make precise adjustments

This is a great piece of software you have developed - well done. I used it to process my biggest ever Moon mosaic and you can see the results here: https://www.youtube....h?v=oSalHhI_DXA

I mentioned your software in the end credits.

Keep up the good work!!

Just an amateur comment since I know nothing about processing dso, used astrosurface to process a bad first time photo of Orion and during stacking checked the FWHM box and left it at the default of two just to see what it did, don’t know it’s purpose but it did get rid of all my hot pixels without having to do any dark frame subtraction..... just thought that was cool, probably many months away from understanding dso processing, still just becoming proficient at planetary

Hi,

the message is when AstroSurface cannot write the result file in the disk.

Probably this is due to Windows user rights.     ( Here you video file is in the Deskop an a folder Aligned is made by AstroSurface )

Test 1 :

You can to connect as Windows system administrator.

Test 2 :

Try to open an image file and save it in the folder Aligned that is in the Deskop.

What happens ?

Yes thanks. I have tried running the program as an administrator. I have also tried renaming the file so it is not so long.  There is no image file to retrieve to speak of. The .SER file processes fine up to the point where it won’t save. I am even able to load my other stacked files from Autostakkert3!  and they can be sharpened and processed.  Just the program stops after stacking the .ser files or even .avi files on my computer. I am running Windows 10 with 8Gb of ram so that should be enough.  I have also tried Global stacking as well as Muti point stacking to no avail. Thanks again for your reply. I would really like this to work .

Delete program and reinstall, just sounds like something went wacky, only thing different is I save as png, I have no problems with windows 10 so I bet a reinstall and reboot should fix you

Yes,

this trouble is very strange.

Delete AstroSurface folder and install last version : AstroSurface QUASAR.

May be something went wrong when dowloaded previously...
