I got up at 2am on Saturday July 11, drove about 30 minutes out of town (Bortle 9) to a yellow zone spot with a flat northern horizon.

  1. First pic: 7D Mark II, Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8L at 55mm, f/2.8, ISO1600, a single 4 second exposure.
  2. Second pic: 7D Mark II, Canon 200mm f/2.8 prime at f/2.8, ISO1600, a single 1.5 second exposure.
  3. Third pic: my setup. All my gear except cameras is at my observatory, so I used a 10" Joby GorillaPod tripod. Minimal gear.  I think you can see the histogram of the first pic on the camera's LCD.
