i just started imaging with a startracker and i intend to use my 8 inch OTA on an HEQ5/6 

is it possible?

Sure it's possible.  But, depending on what you had on the startracker (camera lens?  focal length?) it's liable to be a bigger jump than you think right now.    I started with an 80mm, 600mm.  After a few months I went to a 6 inch 1370mm.  The experience resembled stepping off a cliff.  <smile>  Things get hard fast with a bigger scope, it's not linear.

 

At a minimum I'd get things working with your present optics, and the new mount, first.
