This internet ad caught my eye!

I guess it's just a vendor using the Walmart on-line service (like Amazon).  But it hadn't occurred to me that Walmart would service such a sophisticated clientele.

Drop that 5mm into this baby and now you're talkin'!

Walmart has come along way baby. Pirelli tires for my Audi sr5 10% less than any other tire store including mounting and balancing.

If you look closely the retailer that has the XW is actually "The Camera Box".

Walmart is used only as a "Front" to sell items from other Vendors, much like Amazon does.

IME the shipping is cheaper through Amazon.

Next thing you know Walmart will be selling Tak 150 TOA’s and AP Mach 2 mounts!  lol.gif

Sure looks like Walmart is otherwise going toe to toe with Amazon by bringing in a wide range of vendors.

With regard to purchases generally and electronics, I have found lately that if I need something in a hurry I'm just as well off with Best buy or Walmart. But it would have never occurred to me to go to their website looking for an XW. It just came up on the browser.

It's almost as if these people are watching me to see what interests me.

Because of their photographic & outdoor hobby ranges, Pentax have more outlets & name recognition.

I see as many XWs sold in stores for photo & outdoor, as astro specialist ones.

That 'baby' is only for kids AND beginners. Funny how they lump the two together. Also, it's a 90 degree scope! Gotta have that feature - check!!

Well, probably next generations becoming more and more advanced. They don't want to start their hobby from Kellners and Plossls lol.gif  We live in amazing times...e.g. I never dreamed I would be buying from Amazon sandpaper Norton made by Symantec... go figure... fingertap.gif

Let's see, I need 86 rolls of toilet paper, 3 gallons of maple syrup, a 12 gauge shot gun, an inflatable t-rex, oooh, and I'll take me a set o' them Pentax X-Dubyahs.

Ah, the unparalleled wonder of American shopping.

I'm surprised! Someone in the executive side must have astronomy as a hobby. I wonder what the background context is on this, i.e. how did it happen?

They are watching you.

I recently read where the new and improved Windows Edge browser grabs your browser history and uploads it to their server.

Of course, its secure and no one will ever look at where you've been....shocked.gif

Yes I avoid the Windows Edge browser and am not happy with the way Win 10 tries to tie you into the internet and Bing! and all that stuff.  In fact when I installed Win 10 I did a "local install" where you get everything ready for the installation then disconnect from the Internet.  As in pull the cable.

Then at every step of the way you get asked if you want to connect and there is a "no connect" option in small print to one side.

Even after that you have to fidget around and disconnect Bing from your PC searches.   I don't know what !#$!%$ idiot came up with the idea that we needed internet search results when we are looking for files on our desktop.   Probably the son of whomever thought we would like to have "Clippy" commenting on our spreadsheet work.

Allowing third party cookies is all that takes. That said, I use extensions that delete a site's cookies when I am done with it. Other extensions remove tracking elements in URLs, and send out false fingerprinting information. Additional tracker blocking comes via a hosts file, Pi-hole, and uBlock Origin. I also use a VPN (also with Pi-hole) that I rolled myself to keep my ISP from spying on me. To keep my operating system from phoning home, I use Linux. The Internet is fun! Computers are WONDERFUL!! smashpc.gif

I have yet to order anything from Walmart.

I'm surprised the eyepiece has even *one* picture.  You buy a $50 telescope it comes in a colorful box with brilliant Hubble images of galaxies and razor sharp photos of the moon and planets.

You buy a $7,000 Astro-physics it comes in a plain brown box.  Pentax in OEM boxing (least in the old days) just a simple green motif.  The good stuff does not need to advertising copy to shout from the rooftops.

Yeah I definitely agree Gno. The people looking at a Pentax probably know what they are buying but I still think it’s nice to have a few better pictures when the price starts going up for stuff including classified ads.
