According to AAVSO reports
Nova Cas 2020
designated as TCP J00114297+6611190
is getting brighter and is now
about magnitude 11 visual.
Will try to observe tonight....
Makes me wonder how did I miss this.

Got a chart for this now.
Also going to try in the next few hours to get an estimate.

Scope is on N CAS 2020 now,
Magnitude estimate 11.4. at 21:00 UTC.
Late twilight so not truly dark, but plainly visible at 135x.
A few high hazy clouds keep passing the FOV, but seeing not bad.

Just made another magnitude estimate of Nova Cas 2020.
Mag 10.9 at 21:27 UTC. so slightly brighter tonight. Clouds have now moved in so its the end of that short session.

Nice image.
Clouded out tonight, so no viewing the star tonight.
You took that pic at 05:08 UTC this morning (my time), I was just getting up for work.

The nova is so far displaying a highly unusual lightcurve. AAVSO data puts the nova at 12th magnitude as of this morning and the plotted data from the date of discovery to the present shows the rise to maximum was rather slow and the decline after maximum is steeper than was the rise! It will be interesting to follow the lightcurve future development.

The Nova Cas 2020 continues with remarkable behaviour
and because
of very good sky
I did observe this object four nights straight.
August 2020 12.2194 visual 11.6m
13.2035 visual 12.1m
14.2021 visual. 12.9m
15.3479 visual. 12.9m

My visual estimates show a small brightning.
17th August 2020: 12.2mv
18th August 2020: 11.8mv
Is it going to peak again?.
Clouded out this evening, typical.

Thanks Rich - looks like it may now be on the decline from a peak value of ~ magnitude 10.6.
How do you obtain this curve captures in jpg? Are they from the AAVSO page, do you have the link?
Thank you very much

It would appear that this secondary brightening is starting to roll over, according to the AAVSO's lightcurve. Such behavior, so quickly coming on the heels of the nova's primary maximum, is odd and certainly atypical of an Fe nova, as spectra suggests this one is. What could be next?

Here's the AAVSO light curve from a couple days back showing the initial peak and secondary peak with the secondary decline just starting. Also, two images from my last data collection on the night of August 20-21, 2020 in V and B bands. Instrumental magnitudes derived were 11.954 (V) and 13.538 (B).

Now thats a nice capture .
Not managed a clear night for the last few days, its quite clear at the moment, and the sun's nearly about to set, so fingers crossed.
Although saying that, I think its now just beyond my 8", I can just manage around 13.0mv on a good clear night, and before long it'll be much fainter than that.
I'm hoping for another brightning .
Rich.
