Carton D=60 F=900. A nice and well made little telescope. I like the mount (it works surprisingly well) and the colour, battleship gray and the price, €20,-. The dewshield seems a bit oversized.
Like the color of it all.

I have a few of that model and they have great optics. Love the mount.

That sounds promising. Waiting for clear skies.

Carton re-designed the cell and made them larger probably around the late 70s. The reason, it had room for a collimatable cell which was on some models and they could share the same casting. It's a pretty big chunk of aluminum so it's quite heavy for a 60mm.

That really is a nice bit of information, thank you for sharing Kasmos! The lens cell indeed is quite massive with plenty of room for collimation screws. Lacking on my specimen however :-)

I had been searching for this Meade #277 for awhile. A few of them slipped though my fingers but this one didn't.
Nice find!

That mount it had was great. I used on on a 70mm flourite refractor and it worked very well.

Congrats!
IMHO that's clearly a Vixen!
Nomenclature on the side? 76mm?
Congrats!

Never had a bad 80mm V yet. I had the same scope with polar scope and drives.

Thanks! Yes it has the Circle V on the label. It’s an 80/910. The eyepiece and prism are also circle V, as well as a plastic triangular Tupperware thing which is where you keep eyepieces on the tray I guess.
This one also has the polar scope and the finder that can pivot which is pretty neat. As far as I can tell, only caps are missing - the objective cover, the polar scope covers, and caps for the finder. All should be relatively easy to replace except for the polar scope cover. Not sure where I am going to find something that works…
It would be great to add drives in time for sure
There are pre-made OnStep go-to kits with stepper motors for not much.

I will NEVER lose a polar scope cover or a toe saver! Because I know how much that would bug me and plague my existence! So I check on them any time the mount is in use or transit. Very easy to print a polar scope cover now. My main mount has a machined aluminum polar scope cover! That thing is like a holy relic. It's the most important part of the whole mount.

Picked up this nice Edmund 4005 8" f5 Newtonian off the classifieds. This model came equipped with the seldom-seen off-axis guider/focuser. I will be seeking a set of 9.5" ID rings so that I can use it for astrophotography.

I really like the Super Polaris. Picked up this combo yesterday. Came with a silver Celestron 26 mm and a prism diagonal. It needed some work but it’s great!
Congratulations on obtaining that combination. I have the same package and the only it gets sold is after they have spread my ashes out in the Bay.

I am still looking for a triangular Tupperware box and the polar scope. These is some nice guys on CNs that can 3D print your missing caps. I am the 80 and the 102, but the sharpest view I have ever had of Saturn is with the 80mm

I bet the triangular Tupperware box could be printed as well. I have some clear PLA+ I could give it a try if you're interested?

That’s a big YES ! I am guessing that I am not the only one who has been searching for one of these triangular beauties. I don’t own a 3D or the skills to operate one.

Quick rough design. Opted for magnet inserts on the lid because the original tupperware latch design was actually fairly hard to open and close securely. This way the magnets will hold the lid on but it's easy to take off and on. For maximum clarity on the sides, translucent PETG would probably be the best filament, but glow in the dark filament would be extra cool, just not as transparent to see what's inside from outside the box.
