Beautiful telescope! Yes this one is aluminum. It is flocked and someone did an outstanding job with the baffling. Maybe I can get lucky and find an objective.

Congrats!  Great Nab!  Some of these unknown ATMs did wonderful machining & assembly -- decades ago...

Might want to anodize the focus knobs.  Aluminum leeches onto the hands if you touch it in its raw state.

Thanks for the photo. Seems Tupperware should have made it a tighter fit.

Moot now.  Tupperware has just gone the way of Meade...

What I read is they are Chapter 11. No more manufacturing in the US though.

I had my eye on this OTA while it was advertised in FB. Glad that you got it instead of going to trash.

Would be great to replace my cardboard OTA for this 4”/F15 objective.

Look how cheap irrigation pipe is, 4 inch.  I believe the wall is 1/20th inch.

Except for my local San Diego SGW my SGW telescope biding days are

virtually over. That is unless I see something I really want with few, if any,

bids on it and definitely no S&H deal-killers. Good luck there. It hasn't

happened for me much lately but I did win a recent one. It's beat to heap.

It's a rather unique and scarce, mechanically marvelous Dinkerscope.

I do have another in decent shape. I strongly suspect that most of you here

wouldn't want this pile at all. No one else bid! So, laugh away if you must lol.gif

but know this, these two Dinkerscopes make me smile. smile.gif

Too much future fun: Https://shopgoodwill.com/item/210118648

At the San Diego SGW I win a few bids. I usually lose out to "heavier"

bidders. But. there are No S&H deal-killers Here as I always pick my

winners up on my way to Kobey's Swap Meet, where I will look for more

goodies. Here's a recent San Diego SGW win. Surprisingly, it had only

one other "early" bidder: HTTPs://shopgoodwill.com/item/196827997

Funny thing. I only wanted the conical mirror from this one for a "blind"

classic scope that I have, but this optically awesome cheapo is like new.

I currently don't have the heart to rip it out and transplant it. Wuss!

                     Somebody smack me.

Before clicking on the first link I had a feeling it was the 1252.

I have the White and Gray later version, so that one was tempting.

I'm a sucker for fixers but I'm holding well at where I am.

BTW, Didn't you already have one of both types?

Some of those SGW local pickup bargains make me cry... until I get lucky myself. Tucson has a lot of astronomers, though. Very little escapes their attention.

I picked up a Manfrotto MHXPRO-3WG 3-axis slow motion head in a Goodwill store today for $4. MSRP $250.

I do have both types. This one came with an original cell but
had a wretched lens. I highly doubt that lens was the original.

Starts at post #46: https://www.cloudyni...-700/?p=6507056

This one I bought...From the terrific Dave Trott...
Had drilled holes in the cell...And the tube threads were shot:

https://www.cloudyni...pes/?p=12884582

https://www.cloudyni...-700/?p=7628426

So, if I get really lucky, I just might end up with an unstripped tube,

a better cell and maybe, just maybe a good original 60mm lens.

Worst case scenario: I'll still have a good leg or three to stand on. lol.gif

Home Built/ATM.

Agreed, and not long ago given the fresh appearance of the aluminum focuser body.

Black anodized aluminum focuser body CNC cut from a single block of 6066-T6 aluminum and Red anodized aluminum tube:

So I purchased this old criterion custom 10 inch Dyna scope last week, in Prescott Valley AZ. Not a bad round trip , 200 miles. I have always wanted the bell shaped pier, until now I had never seen one in real life. I've been cleaning it up, getting things to move that are supposed to move. The mount was in concrete outside since the 70's. So far, the motor is toast, some cracks in tube and in one of the rotating rings,  the tube must have falling at some point. I think it will eventually come together, ten inch f/7 should be nice for the solar system and contrast in general. The mirror looks good, with a nice even coat of dust on it. I got a bonus with the wasp nest inside the motor housing cover. When I get everything half way nice and usable I'll post another picture, I've got my project for winter.

Is there a tripod hiding inside the pier? Some 10" Dynascopes had that feature. The setting circles will never be bettered!

That would be the 6 and 8 I believe, I don't think they ever had tripods for the ten.

At least you are lucky enough to have a Goodwill near you that posts on SGW. I don't have that luxury. Although I am within driving distance to SD, LA and the OC, figuring in the cost of gas to pick up in any of those three places, I'd rather just pay the shipping fee.

What's expensive about that irrigation pipe is the shipping costs.  I was going to get a new 7" section to make a new dew cap, but the shipping was more than the pipe was (for a 1' section!).

Anyone ever check on AliExpress for tubing? It seems a lot of their merch is from the same suppliers who make telescope parts.

Cool! I have a friend in Cincinnati that has one that’s mint! He actually got it when he was a teenager, brand new! It now sits in a corner of their upstairs library, more or less, as a display. I don’t think it’s been used in years but its kept dusted and polished. It even has the short wooden tripod inside the bell pedistal.

That sounds like a California problem. This is not a political statement but merely a fact based on gas prices here.

True.  We have folks on this Forum with expert-level machining of aluminum, brass, & steel -- I love seeing how they used those skills to get an Old Scope working again.  Lots of creativity, too.  So y'all make some pix, and post 'em!
