My new 1970 Sears 90mm.

It's work in progress but the optical tube is now functional and how sweet it is!

A few dust specks, but look no clamchips!

I purchased today the "Max Bray" 5 inch Mak that was on ebay. I'll report on it here once it's in hand.

Awesome! I was hoping someone here got it. It looked like it would clean up nicely. Max Bray worked for the Ad Astra company and they made a lot of Maksutovs. I have a Max Bray 10" f/15 classical cassegrain that I've been building for a while, no first light yet though.

Thanks for letting us know-I'm looking forward to seeing how it cleans up. I had my eye on it but I have way too many Maks and Cass's as it is.

Where did you find this?  Do you have the mount?

Mine came 350 units later.

Pretty sure mine is 113. There was only one production run so there is likely little variation over the 400 made.

I found it up in Anacortes.

It came with a Celestron CG5 equatorial head and a vintage Professional Junior movie camera tripod but

I have a 6345 mount missing a few parts.

This is the happiest forum. I wanted the Max Bray Mak because we'll never see the Q5 we all hoped for.

I saw that, I am not convinced its a Max Bray, it looks more like a Maksutov Club Gregory Mak just by the dimensions.Still a good price no matter what the origin!

You may well be right. Can you provide a link to info about that scope?

Looks like it was sold twice (different Ebay numbers):

Drove some 520 kilometers yesterday. To pick up a Takahashi FC-76 classic.

Was worth that journey. A cool frac.

Very friendly seller. Was a pleasure to meet him.

The price was a steal. I love those grey Taks.

Edit: The lens is absolutely clear.

Your new Tak looks great. Typically the vintage non-MC lenses out of Japan are now hazed up. Nice to see one that looks clean as a whistle!
