I bought a Nexus II and the encoders last year for a Losmandy GM8. I never was really satisfied with the Nexus II performance and struggled to get the system to work and gave up. I had problems getting the star alignment to work. It would align on the first star but never could get the second star alignment to work or get it to track. I also had problems with the Sky Safari interface.

Today while testing indoors, I found the RA/AZ Encoder label on the cable was wrong. I swap the cables and it now seems to be tracking correctly. The next available clear sky I'll check the star alignment.

Thanks for the hint, the device has one socket only and was pre-wired when I received it, both encoders go into one plug. Could have been badly wired in the factory. As this dob was donated to me and I did not purchase it directly from the factory, I will have to find a wiring diagram and trace the wires myself.

... I found the RA/AZ Encoder label on the cable was wrong...

I was wrong! The cable is labeled correctly. I verified this last night, I did the star alignment on Betelgeuse, swapped the cables back and forth while changing the polarity on the encoder settings. I did find the RA/Azm jack intermittent. I had to play with it to make a good connection. After all that I found the RA/Azm and the Dec/Alt values of +311296 for both worked correctly. It tracked correctly and I did a couple of push to's to Jupiter and M42. The accuracy was within 2 degrees (FOV) and that was with a very rough polar alignment.

I've recently bought an iPad (A16 version) and with the Sky Safari 7 Pro App it works better. With my previous iPad (2016 version) the tracking would skip around and disappear. I still need to sort out the second star alignment, I still get error messages about the second star being to close, but it does let me start a new alignment without having to shutdown and restart the app. I need so more run time on it, but it's a pretty cool tool.

Bought and received the Nexus II alongside their Skywatcher classic Dobsonian encoder kit a couple of weeks ago.  Paired it to SkySafari Pro on my iPhone and so far its been working great.   Im able to move my 10" dobsonian from target to target using the app.

So far Its been a great!

Regards

Ray
