Lately there has been an increase in topics here which are not about Outreach but about "Reaching Out" for assistance in some matter.

Outreach, for the purposes of this Forum, concerns "Public Outreach" topics - where we amateurs bring our scopes to places for the enjoyment of the masses - club events or individually.  Outreach may also discuss videos and on-line outreach.

Fundamentally anything to do with we experienced amateurs providing a chance for the public to see, and possibly join, our great hobby.

A quick note of acknowledgement as you read tis would be helpful.

Thanks,

Dave, for the moderating team....

Dave, there was a short thread(4 post) in the CN feedback forum near the end of June. LINK That pointed out that members wishing to use the outreach forum to maintain an ongoing state or region conversation  were welcomed by Ken S in administration to use the forum. See Ken's post at the end. So as required I am acknowledging this and asking you to read the thread I linked to because there is a lack of communication as to what is allowed on this forum. As a participant in the Northeast Maine thread I would be very disappointed if the boys from the Kingdom were unwelcome to continue.

Grey.  the forum that Ken directed you to was not the Outreach Forum.

I shall quote him here from the link you gave me:  "I would suggest you make your way over to the Astronomy Clubs, Star Parties, Shows, & Conferences forum and see how that works. That's where those kinds of discussions are currently had. If there are some incremental changes we could make to help you, then let us know, but be mindful that the answer might be no because of the above, or other, reasons.

And yet your 153-page thread is in Outreach.  Hmmmmm.  Strange

I'm inclined to leave things as they are.....

what we are really trying to remove from Outreach are Equipment help discussions....there are forums for that.

Dave

It nice to know you are inclined to leave our thread alone. Since our 153 page thread has garnered 77,000+ views making it one of the most viewed threads in "outreach" I felt your notice was directed as much at the Northeast thread as the the "equipment" threads that don't meet your guidelines. We were moved here by the moderators in Beginners forum without any discussion of advanced notice. Are you saying that the mods responsible for moving us never consulted you or any mods in your forum before the move? Hummmm. Now I find that strange. Although I didn't make notes of the event I  believe that Ken S was a mod there at the time so I think he was referring to to us in his quoted post.Ken S now in administration was instrumental in orchestrating the move. I didn't question the move. I don't care what the name of the park that we play in is. I find the the kick the can down the road treatment the  Northeast thread has received so far, unsettling. Being "inclined" doesn't really sound " Welcoming" or approving. I can almost see it as the pause before the boot sends the can tumbling down the road one more time.

Dave:

This is my note of acknowledgement.   It seems like just giving your original post a LIKE would also do the trick.

I have noticed that increase in off-topic threads, I tend to send mod alerts when I see them.

Read and acknowledged.  I do hope as a beginner in this pursuit and living in a rural area that thIs friendly and helpful group can continue to share observations and experience in the manner it has been,  Please note that especially in this time of COVID-19, public outreach can probably be best accomplished in a “remote” manner.   Thanks for your consideration.  Mike

Read and noted. I find the Northeast outreach a fine place to post, there are good people there.

Acknowledged.

Is there any forum specifically about joining and/or informing about petitions for the protection of the dark sky? Is that "Outreach" too, or rather "Light pollution"?
