I have an early 2000's model of the WO Megrez 80. Great optics, however it still has the original focuser on it.  Not knowing much about focusers, I still would like to upgrade to a 2 speed Crayford and hopefully be able to attach an EAF soon. (Original focuser is round and would not support the bracket I think.)

My question is, will any Crayford focuser for a 2in refractor fit this?  I was told that the inside base flange diameter is 86.6.  However, I can't find the specs anywhere on the internet to back this up.

I was hoping someone had some knowledge on these old scopes and could guide me in the right direction.

Thanks!

It appears that the Megrez 80 and 90 both use a 90mm tube.

Feathertouch makes a 2" adapter for that 90mm tube:

You can then mount the FT2025 focuser onto that.

Not inexpensive, though...

Well, you could probably fit the GSO dual speed Crayford in there (86.4 mm), but your scope uses a threaded flange. The GSO uses 3 screws, so now you're drilling holes. I know you can get a nice focuser and flange from Moonlite, but it won't be cheap.

Hmm.. a new scope is almost cheaper.. lol

Since my endgame is to have a EAF attached, it would probably be cheaper for me to figure out a way to construct an adapter to hold the EAF on a rounded tube. https://www.thingive...m/thing:3865474

rather than putting on a new focuser to accomplish the same.

Biofish:

I have this same scope but with an FPL-53 doublet.

I also have a GSO two speed with the 86.4 mm adapter.

If you can wait a few days, I can see if the GSO focuser fits.

If it does not fit, i am wondering if the rotator coupling is the same diameter... doubtful though.

Nothing like having two different focusers Frankenstein'ed together!

The focuser screws onto the M90x1 external threading of the tube.

I put this focuser on mine: https://www.teleskop...avel-95-mm.html

This one would also fit (with an available adapter): https://www.teleskop...Connection.html

Interesting.  So the 80mm Megrez has a M90x1 thread?
Would this work?

I don't know if for a good fit that model relies on a certain thickness of tube or flange to fit between the threaded silver ring and the smaller diameter black tube. Perhaps ask the vendor?
