Let me show you best Leitz Wetzlar binoviewer ever made.

All potentional Leitz binoheads passed through my hands through years....and I waited longer time to do job right with it!

I was able to adapt that beast with little pain, to transform it in PRO way for astronomy usage.

 

Its very very rare model, longer time discounted, and almost impossible find to buy.

 

Its super robust, with weight of 1368 grams (yes, super heavy, but metals used are high quality, and no plastic parts like many nowdays binoviewers have).

 

Light path 12.2cm at IPD 67mm.

 

Sharpness, contrast and light scatter, match performance of BIG Zeiss binoviewer.

Side silver knob is used for butter smooth and precise IPD adjustments.

Effective Clear Aperture I waas able to pull out with Supercharging, is 26.5mm.

Whole back is made as new part, from INOX material, instead iron made original simillar back adapter.

I made GPC thread and all needed to support Baader GPCs.

I'm assuming the knob is for adjusting on side to the other but you used Focusing holders as well?

Side knob when rotate change IPD by going eyepiece hoders left or right on sides.

And of course, these are Baader Helicall T2 eyepiece holders, with fine focusing mechanism, my favorite ones by far.

Ok, so how can you tell what it actually is? 

What leads you to believe it's a Zeiss, Leica, Leitz, Etc?

 

(Incidentally I believe you, just wanna know how one can tell).

Its simple: one have to have lots of:

1. experience
2. knowledge

This binoviewer just came into my hands after a little travel from Croatia to Crete, Greece .

It looks immaculate. It feels like a tank. The optical surfaces look pristine beyond belief. The stainless steel ('INOX') bayonet is incredibly well built and holds my Baader 1.7x Newton GPC perfectly.

 

I will try it out tonight on the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter & Mars with my 6" F5 Dobson.

I'm building a new sliding shed for my bigger scope now so I'll have to wait a couple of weeks to try it out in that one.

The bigger scope will be better to try out some deepsky too.

 

With the binoviewer came two Leitz-Wetzlar 25mm eyepieces. They ooze quality and look like they just come from the factory. The glass looks pristine and the transparency is amazing!

 

I'll post some pictures soon. I'll have to adapt the ~30mm eyepieces to fit the 31.75mm (1.25") eyepiece holders first to show the unit as a whole.

Hi Nico, I am glad to heard you like it ☺️

 

It was very complex job, and with my imaginations I have, I was able to make back T2 Inox adaptation + thread for Baader GPCs.

I think I will enjoy it very much Denis .

 

Here's some pictures of the binoviewer with the Baader 1.7x Newton GPC and the eyepieces.
I have made some temporary adapters from 35mm film roll canisters. I hope to replace these with metal adapters soon.

Amazing!

I didnt play too much with eyepieces, and as we discussed, there should be some false colours addes in pict.

Thus binoviewer provide excellent quality of image 😊

Very good seeing here tonight.
Cassini division and red spot on Jupiter visible at 51x in the 6" F5.
Need to check collimation though first now, it's off (the collimation of the telescope, the binoviewer seems perfectly in collimation).
