This summer I've put together about 20 observations of Jupiter, and I thought of posting a selection of them in a single thread instead of creating one for each sketch. I am not sure this is allowed, moderators please let me know. I posted another observation here, made on June 22: https://www.cloudyni...r#entry10285719

Seeing has pretty been good and even excellent until August; not so much lately, but I am still observing as often as I can. Getting back to observing and sketching after long years, I have tried different techniques especially with colors. On occasions I went directly with color pencils, and I have started experimenting with a pen tablet. I left some of the sketches raw, as I made them at the telescope.

Jupiter is not easy to sketch, lots of details and colors and it spins so fast. To offset the latter, I usually pin down a couple of highly visible landmarks (say, big prominences on both sides of the CM) that I use as references to position everything else. I still have a long way to go.

DIY newton 10" f/7, on an equatorial platform by Ed Jones. Date and time in the file name (yyyymmdd_hhmm_name).

September 16. I guess something was wrong with the light when I took a picture of the drawing, the original is way better.

This is a better reproduction of the Sep. 16th drawing, along with yesterday evening's sketch. Good transparency, bad seeing. I don't understand why I can't rotate it, I can see it correctly when I open it.
