Hi all

I'm considering  buying  MEADE -  130MM SERIES 6000 ED TRIPLET APO

Can any astronomer share its experience with this refractor under skies?    optically  (contrast and pin point stars) specially  on planets and splitting double stars)

                                                                                                              and   mechanically

What is your recommendation to buy it or not  ?

How this scope in comparison  to TAK 120mm or TAK  FS128mm  or TV 127mm

Thanks in Advance

Yehuda

Haifa,  Israel

I'm Observer for over 20 years ( an APO guy  (-:  )

I used to have the great APO scopes  TEC140 and  TV 101 Genesis, now I have TV 85mm APO .

I have 2 observing buddies with the ' Sky Rover ' branded scope which I think is the same scope as what Meade brands .

One has a 115mm and another has the 130mm and we all agree that the 115mm has better optics , the 130 is still very good tho .

The major drawback with the 130 is its size and weight , they are a solid and well made scope  but are very heavy , front heavy !! . So if your mount is capable these are a great scope that will give very good views and a lot more affordable than the 3 scopes you mentioned .

Hi Yehuda,

I would say it is not comparable to TAK and they are in two different classes. You may compare it to ES 127 FCD1 or FCD100, TV 127, TS 130, etc. I personally prefer TS130 over them as it is cheaper and uses FPL53. As far as I remember, Meade uses FPL51. I have a TS 130 and can tell you it has a very good color correction. But, I have a Edge HD 8" that is lighter, shorter, way cheaper and far better than all for observation. Its image quality is like APOs. If I were you, I would definitely buy Edge HD 11" as it would easily outperform all APOs outside for observation.

Bests

Is  TS130 is under production?  where it's sells?  I never heard on TS company....its looks copy to Meade 130 6000 mechanically at least....I bet the lens is the same

Edge HD 8" is a scope from another scale and type  (SCT  2030mm focal length)

Thanks
Yehuda

e.g.

You can not compare to TV127  to  TS  or  Meade .

Optically they are totally different.

Thanks again

the glass of  MEADE 6000 series is:     FK61 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass

see:

https://www.cloudyni...-61-and-fpl-53/

• H-FK61 glass made by CDGM in China with an Abbe Number of 81.6 − very similar to FPL-51.

The Meade uses Chinese glass, Chinese optics and is produced in China.

The optical figure of the lens will be better in the Taks and TV.

The quality of the ED glass will be better in the Taks and TV.

The price difference is reflective of the quality.

I’m sure the Meade is a fine telescope but it is not a Tak or a TV 127, in the same way that, although they are both fine automobiles, a Chevy Malibu is not a Ferrari Superfast.

Teleskop Service from Germany. APM sells them as well. It has two focuser types of 2.5" and 3.7". Both of them are very good. It is not an excellent scope like TAK, but it is definitely very good for the price ($2000-2400).

I am not comparing them. I just saying that at some point you can go to SCT routes for observation. Edge HD have APO like image quality and even 8" one outperforms almost all APOs (less than 6") out there with much lower price, shorter tube, lighter body, longer focal length, etc. For observation, aperture is king.

Thanks
