Hi,

I picked up a 6” f/5 that the previous owner had converted to a dob, primarily to check it out as a small, grab-and-go widefield sweeper. Then it occurred to me that it might make a great scope for my daughter. I already promised my son my old 8” dob once he passes a test and uses it to find 5 out of a list of 10 deep-sky objects i made for him. That scope is also a dob conversion, using an 8” f/5 newt and a Zhumell (I believe) base. Now my daughter has a manageable scope to explore on her own while we are out.

So now we have a family of dobs for a family of amateur astronomers. 😁

Michael

Yes. Does that mean I have to get an 8” Portaball for my son and an Astroscan for my daughter? 😁

Not really. But you are very fortunate to have a son and a daughter than are interested and excited about observing the universe through a telescope.
