Greetings

I have a 1999 vintage Celestron NexStar5 (Not 5i... I'm talking about the original grey-tube model) on the original Alt-Azumith mount.

Despite its Great Age, this telescope and its mount is still working perfectly.

Now I have decided it might be a good idea to try some astrophotography with it, small star clusters and the like.

Which leads me to the Wedge. I don't have one at the moment, but the NexStar Evolution and SE6/8 wedge is the current product... I'm trying to determine if this wedge would work with my telescope. The mounting looks similar, but I am trying to avoid an expensive experiment failing.

Anyone know whether these are the same fitting or not?

Please and thank you

What is the center-to-center distance between two adjacent bolts on the tripod? The current 6SE/Evolution tripod has three bolts 5-9/16” apart. The bolts have a 3/8-16 thread.

If the bolt pattern is the same then the wedge should fit.

Hi Adam,

The mounting bolt pattern of the NexStar 6SE/8SE and the size of the base is identical to the original NexStar 5.

Best regards,
