I've posted so many updates here through the last five years, but truth be told, I didn't ACTUALLY know If i'd finish this thing.  These kind of projects can become SO difficult to the point of every tiny thing becoming a huge issue.  It takes a LOT of help, and I had a ton- see my thanks page.  Anyway, thank you for the support over the years and please feel free to share on social media, or anywhere you'd like.  I hear it makes a great wallpaper.  I truly mean it when I say space is for everybody!

Click here to see the full 65,000 x 39,000 image.  Use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out, Press "Q" to bring up the solve.  Yes, I solved it.

Here is a low res (image for those that don't make the jump)

Phenomenal work CosmicWreckingBall.  Fantastic details, colors, imaging and exceptional processing. What's your next project?

EDIT - submit as APOD. See what they say.

THANK YOU!   The occasional random target unless I find some research to help out on!  I need a break... the regimen that I had to adhere to above almost broke me.  I'm ready to hit snooze and enjoy space again.  I'm enjoying watching others enjoy this image, it's just going to take me a while to go after another big project.  smile.gif

Amazing project. Came out great! It certainly warrants a lot of time examining.

I'm hoping to do a poorman's version of Orion this winter. Maybe a four panel.

Thanks Arthur!  Orion is so fun to photograph, all those photons are worth it!  Good luck and clear skies!

Utterly gobsmacked!  I have no words to describe how awesome that is.  I've completed a good size mosaic before of the Milky Way visible from Denver, but this is even bigger!  Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

This should be printed huge for the Smithsonian.

This is an incredible image.  I could sit and stare at the high res version all evening. I saw three galaxies to the lower right of Rigel that I had no idea were there.  Super work!

Thank you!  Those are the reactions I had hope to inspire with the image.  The chunky clouds are in every frame.  I'll release the archive data of each LRGB solve (which is much more detailed because it's a manageable image to solve) in the upcoming weeks.

I wish I knew your name rather than CosmicWreckingBall, but that is just outstanding, what a fantastic thing that is that you did. I’m bookmarking this to get lost in this image on my larger monitor later. Just wow! Congratulations CWB

Ok, ****, I give up.  I tried really really hard and I can't find anything at all negative to say.  The best I could come up with was "Bah, five years, it probably changed in that time, you should go to the start and do it again".  Very poor on my part!  I guess I could go with "Meh, look at those halos!" in true CN style, but frankly halos don't really bother me so my heart isn't even in it.  Darn!

The truth is, this is an awesome amazing incredible image.  I love zooming in ever closer and closer and closer and seeing more and more detail appear.  Simply excellent -- well done!

Congratulations Matt!! It's an amazing project, and I've spent a lot of time on your website over the past day reading through all the different sections and just taking the image in. Love the music that you commissioned from your former student too!

I have no words. What a fantastic project and superb image. Orion has always been my favorite constellation, since I was a kid and got into astronomy.

Well done!

+1 for APOD submission.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks Nico!  I'm glad to hear you moved around the site... I have spent all of COVID designing and getting it ready as a home for this project.  I knew I couldn't just put it out there and say, that's it.  I'm done.  So the website came as an idea from my wife.  I am hoping to keep content on it.  I'm not really into making money from it, unless it helps me get a job in the industry- now that would be a lifetime goal, but I don't know too many astronomically based business looking for a Religion/Philosophy Major who runs programs for 100 students at a time.  Haha!  If you do, please point them my way!

I agree, the music was a great addition, I asked for a few things- "star trek" sounds, "space sounds", or "rocket chatter" and he nailed it.

Thanks again for the kind words!
