If you search for “AR102” in the classified section of this site, you will see three listings for this scope. All state “new but unused, in original unopened box” And the three postings appeared this month from two different sellers, all within about one week of each other. Price is about $50 less than the retail price for an Explore Scientific AR 102 scope from, for example, B&H Photo. Strikes me as odd. Any thoughts on this?

Whatever it is, is it worth it to buy secondhand in order to save 50 bucks? You may not get manufacturer warranty and are you sure your seller would take it back if it’s not as described?

They are 3 different scopes. Check out the focal ratio of each scope.

Looks like one of them is a duplicate but same issues mentioned above.

Man $505. I bought mine new, along with the Twilight I, from Adorama for about $575 a month or two ago.

I didn’t mean to imply they were the same exact scope, but I did mean to imply it was odd (for me) to see three AR102’s posted within a few days of each other, all “new unboxed”, and two from the same seller.

Apollo: Hadn’t heard of Adorama. Thanks for that.

Maybe someone wanted a Twilight I mount for cheap ...

That's a reasonable idea.

$550 is a lot for a 4 inch achromat. It wasn't all that long ago they were on sale for $300.

$500 used is the going price for a used AT-102ED which is a far better scope. The AR-102 comes with a diagonal and a unusable finder but the AT-102ED is just so much better.

I should add, the AT-102ED is only $600 new.  The AR-102 is way overpriced by comparison.

Many of the "New  & Unused" products in our classifieds are Ebay type seller's, got no clue what they have nor do they care.

Click on the their Avatar and check for "Active Post's" , if they don't play I don't pay.
