I just picked up an older Meade StarNavigator 114mm f8.8 Newtonian telescope.  It has a strange accessory on the OTA that I'm unable to identify.  It is plugged into the AUX port of the motorized mount and has a 1/8" phono jack and two adjustment screws.  At first I thought maybe it was a star tracker but it doesn't seem to have any optics on it.

Can anyone help me figure out what it is?  Maybe it is a skew motion detector?

Yes!  That is most likely what it is and I suspected that it was a level measurement device. Pretty cool that it has a compass in it as well!
