Can anyone recommend the best software to capture and plate solve on a Mac?

I use SGPro for everything but I have a Mac Laptop that I would like to use for a second session at night and I would like something comparable to SGPro if possible.

Thanks in Advance.

Sean

Check out The Sky X, which isn’t cheap but it offers the same level of automation as SGP.

Also check out the Cloudmakers.eu apps.  You’ll need to install a local Astrometry.net instance and the last time I checked, it’s not the same level of automation as SGP, but they have a nice set of Mac Astro imaging apps.

You could also check out AstroBerry server (RaspberryPi) and run EKOS and KStars on your Mac as client apps.  You can come close to what you’re accustomed to with SGP for very little money by comparison.

You might be better off running SGP on another mini PC riding on your second scope.

I have come to realize that I’m very spoiled with plate solving, auto focus, and automation in SGP.

Kstars/ekos, hands down. It does everything.

And on another note, that was my 1000th post, so clearly I need to spend less time chatting online and more time under the stars!

ASTAP is the fastest platesolver I have tried - faster for me than any of the local astrometry.net solvers. I have used it with CCDCiel for image capture on Windows machines, and  both CCDCiel and ASTAP should run on Macs. I have not used them on a Mac, but perhaps worth trying as they are free.

Runs well in the KSTARS-EKOS-INDI on my Mac....
