I have a Starsense 94005 that I bought in December, 2016.  I have it mounted on a Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 telescope.

I noted a helpful step-by-step procedure on CN posted in September 2016 by zakry3323..

Is this procedure still a good guide to follow for using the Starsense to align the telescope or are there easier (not that this is particularly difficult) ways to accomplish this that have been published since that time.

I updated the Starsense firmware shortly after buying the device in 2016 but have not done it again since that time.

The hand control will now walk you through it.

You should probably update the firmware of the StarSense hand control.  Check here to see if anything important to you was fixed or added since your current version:

Here are my instructions if you need them:

https://www.nexstars...NexStarPlus.htm

You may also need the updated 2017 edition of the StarSense manual:

This just made me think that I need to update the firmware in my hand control as well.  I just purchased a CPC 1100 and thought it would come shipped with everything updated.  Is that not the case? Do I need to follow these instructions above to get the most out of my scope?

I would only update the firmware if there was a particular feature I needed, or a bug that had been fixed in a recent release and was causing me problems. The risk of bricking something is too great.

So for me updating firmware is a last resort!
