I just acquired a 1990s Meade 8" dob on an equatorial mount with a positively terrible focuser. This telescope allows repositioning the mirror to better allow mounting a DSLR for AP by puling the miror up the tube an inch or so.

The telescope is a bit (a lot) rough. It was inexpensive.

I have 1.25 eyepiece projection/prime and 2.00" prime adapters for my Canon EOS 5D.

Is there an affordable focuser that I should investigate? Ideally under $100, or well under $100. I basically bought a mirror and some sonotube. So no $500 focusers.

I can build/modify/3D print or even turn parts if necessary. I am a little intrigued at building a helical, but not first try.

My DSLR is a metal bodied Canon 5D at 820g or almost 2lb. So stiffer is good.

Also, should I fiberglass overcoat the tube?

You'll have to do some work and you need to check racked in focuser height, the Zhumell is 3 inches.

But it's the best focuser you'll find for under $100.
