For those who are interested in testing their software during daytime, below a screenshot of the latest Sky Simulator for ASCOM version 0.1.18 in combination with PHD2. It introduces a cyclic mount error of 20"over 5 minutes and seeing error of 3 ".

With the free Sky Simulator for ASCOM you can test the focuser routine, centering using plate solving, guiding of PHD2 and sequences. It has a build in star database up to magnitude 14 and a deep-sky database. Alternatively you could download deep sky survey images.  Available for Windows at SourceForge.

Very useful!  Love the idea of being able to test plate solving and focusing without wasting imaging time under a clear sky.

Some guidance:

- Keep the resolution low something like 2000x 1500 pixels or lower.

- Exposure time 4 or 5 seconds or longer. (creating and saving and loading of the images takes time)

- The artificial image option (default) works best and makes it independent of the internet.

- You can use it in combination with the standard ASCOM telescope (mount) simulator and focus simulator or in combination with your own mount or focuser.

Any chance this could allow for adjusting the mount error or seeing conditions?

Looks like a very useful tool!

There are several options available.  Error based on slew time and slew distance. See below.

In a few hours I will release 0.1.19 with the following improvements:

- The artificial star positions will be correct on sub pixel level. This works a little better for PHD2.

- De-focusing of artificial stars will follow a hyperbolic curve.
