I’m using ASI studio this gives me 3 settings for gain (Low, Medium and High) I’m using the 294MC Pro and notice low gain is very noisy and has some banding it’s actually worse than medium and high, guess I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed this issue. I was sure it was very clean in the past but it’s been a while since I have used that setting.

Read noise at 0 gain is 4 times higher than at gain 120. So is the full well capacity. When shooting relatively bright targets in one shot (like daylight landscape) you would have to lower the exposure 4 time to avoid highlights clipping at gain 120. So gain 0 gives you lower shot noise for higher read noise. In astroimaging we have much weaker signal and we integrate anyway. So it is almost surely better to shoot 4 times more 4 times shorter subs at gain 120 and never use gain 0. Higher gain values do not differ much from 120 in terms of noise, but you would blow more stars.
