The November 2020 Challenge is now open. The target is NGC 1499 The California Nebula. To reduce the number of stickies, please submit your entry to this thread.

For those having troubles locating the target here is a post that will help locate near by objects.

The Rules will remain pretty simple:

      Your Equipment

      Your Data, Captured This Season

      Your Processing

      One Entry Per Member

      Only post your FINAL image

To increase participation over such a diverse group, the winner will be selected by random drawing. Please feel free to start a thread requesting guidance on your entry prior to submitting it, the whole purpose of this challenge is to learn and compare on a common target. Entries must be submitted by midnight eastern time on November 30, and I will try to announce the winner sometime on December 1.

Note: If I am late announcing, gently nudge one of the moderators in a private note, it helps.

Please display an image in your post, not just a link!!

I hope everyone has fun with this one, and with that,

Let The Games Begin

**Disclaimer** - If the selected winner does not reply and pick a target with-in 3 days of the winner being announced, the Mods will then select the next target.

Hi there everybody. I just happened to capture the California Nebula a little over a month ago. I am a Northern Cal native, so that is pretty much what I captured as my set-up has a narrow field of view of this large object. Enjoy!

I've recently switched over from a DSLR to an ASI1600MM Pro.  I'm in the learning process for multiple filters and narrowband processing.  I shot the CA Nebula for a few days near the full moon, so I used NB filters.  I processed this one in both HSO and SHO.  I couldn't decide which one I liked better, but the HSO looks more like the color images I've taken, so here it is.

This image was taken on 10/17/2020.  The telescope was the Stellarvue 70mm at f/4.8.  The camera was  the ASI071MC-Pro using the STC dual band filter.  52x4' at 200 gain and a temperature target of -5C.  The mount used was the CEM-60 which was auto-guided.  Captured in Sharpcap, stacked in DSS, and developed in Star Tools and Gimp.

My take at this months target. I told 90s subs over 4 nights from arlington VA with a D750, Orion SkyGlow filter (poor man's l-enhance) and AR102 on an AVX.

I know the nebula should be a deeper red, but when I changed the color to that darker red I lost the interesting contrast on the left side of the nebula. My artistic choice was then to leave the nebula more pink than red.

Thanks for suggesting a fun target!

Got this tonight despite my guide camera crapping out. Ended up taking 60S subs and throwing out about half of the 150 I took. So just over an hour. Not the best stars, tracking was awful even with good polar alignment
