Canon PowerShot ZOOM electronic monocular coming to stores soon for $299.  Perhaps the future of binoculars?

It's got a miniscule pupil, so the quality of the image will be inherently limited. For a mere $300, it might be fun to play with or pass onto the kids to kick around until they break it.    Tom

How could be the future of binoculars?

There have been binocular 3D video cameras by Sony. Not made any more.
