Ditto on rboe... external is the way to go... especially if you have quite a bit of data (music, dox, vids, large docs containing your observing sessions...)

I managed to pick up a 250Gig External USB drive last year at OfficeMax for $99. Check your Sunday paper adds to find out if someone has a good deal going on.

Here's a quick example of what's online

Some of the one's listed for Walmart are in-store.

If you had an extra hard drive you could turn it into an external drive with a Hard Drive Enclosure/Case for about $30. (CompUSA, Fryes, BestBuy, etc)

Just a couple of ideas.

WOOHOO !!!!!!!! :jump:

It worked perfectly - thanks for all of the help. :)

I didn't end up making a backup disc since my thumb wouldn't hold enough info so I gambled by saving pics and documents and risking the rest.

No problems at all - Norton is gone and AVG is working perfectly.

Thanks again to all who helped me with this little adventure. Y'all are GREAT!

Congrats on the smooth transition...

There's always that moment after a reboot that you're holding your breath, hoping all went well.

It is working perfectly.

And a couple years later it still works just fine.

I eventually added 4G of memory (allows the use of 3.3G) and a GT8500 or GT8600 256K video card (can't remember which one).

It just survived the move to DC and is working just as it should.

I tossed in 2 500G external drives for my backup files for photography. :)

This allowed me to clean out my laptop and it is working fine as well.

The really funny thing is that now people come to me for computer advice. Amazing how much you can pick up when you need the information.

How very true, Scott: I've learned more about computers right here, than on actual computer forums.

I'm no IT guy, but friends and family now ask for my help.

Who would have thought that would happen?
