Hi all,

with a load of roughly 19 pounds (without counterweight), likely 36 pounds with counterweight, I am over the 30 pound spec for hosting the Celestron RASA 8 on Celestron AVX.  I am using this for now for EAA but who knows - might get into photography over time.  But realistically I don’t think I will have time for astrophotography at a detailed level for some years.  I am not aperture hungry yet.

The mount held up quite well actually at first light - no tracking issue at all. OTA was even below the weight horizontally at one point,   Still, it may be worthwhile to get another mount.

What mount - Celestron or otherwise would you recommend to support a load of 36 to 37 pounds?

The 30 lb. spec is for scope only, not scope plus CW.

An AVX should be able to move and guide a RASA 8”.

You don't include counterweights but still need to derate a mount intended for visual use when imaging. On the other hand, the 8" RASA has a very short (less demanding) focal length and requires relatively short exposures. The AVX should be just about able to do it. If you change mounts later you probably should be looking for more precision rather than greater capacity.

That’s really good to know, somebody had mentioned total weight on another thread.

RASA 8 is incredible, I can’t imagine what RASA 11 is like.   Clear skies!

How about the CEM40/GEM45 from Ioptron.
