I have been giving the Orion Optics UK scope the CT10L a hard look am/ was interested in buying one.

I contact OPT Telescope (a pears to the US dealer there might be more I have not found them yet.

price list on OOUK site                         Price at OPT             Markup

CT10, 10" f4.8                   1700 lbs. sterling =$2,270           $ 2,939                      $669

CT10L, 10" f6.3                  1900 lbs. sterling=$2,538           $ 4,439                      $1,901  !!! ???

I called OPT about this and the guy on the phone thought it might be typo. that was 2 1/2 days ago I have not heard back.

I checked a German dealer and he had the CT10L at $4,100.

Anyone have any idea what the heck is going on?

Want to recommend at 10" f6-f7 OTA of superior quality?

The CT10L is a nice scope and it is very light weight but not worth $4,400!

Thanks in advance

If you're willing to pay $2,500+ then I would recommend going with a custom built telescope.

Part of the dealer markup is the shipping and import duties. You can order direct from OO UK. See how much it costs with shipping, add maybe $200 for customs and $50 for foreign exchange fees. If it is cheaper go that route. If it is more expensive order from a US dealer.

Plenty of custom Dob builders in US. Custom imaging newt builders are less common: http://www.parallaxi...m/products.html
10” model is $4,350 for tube with Feathertouch. Rings, dovetail, Finderscope separate.

Here is a link to a recent thread which compiled a list of custom builders.

These look like primarily Dobs. I get the impression the OP is looking for a solid tube newt to go on an Eq Mount.

We have been talking back in forth. For the most part about customiaztion. I am pretty sure that I saw on their site that do not deal directly with the public anymore. I will ask.

Thanks

That would be new. It’s been awhile but they were perfectly happy to deal with me, ship it directly to me and accept my money.

Shipping cost is definitely a factor.

My VX6L/rings 1/10 pv with RACI and vixen plate cost 401gbp in 2016. The shipping was 184gbp. A total of 585gbp.

That would be 535usd and 245usd at the current rate (780usd total). So about 45% of my total price was in air freight to the USA and ground delivery.

If I had gone with premium US optics and pieced the ota together, the cost would have been more than the OOUK scope shipped. A 6in premium mirror in the US was easily 500-600usd plus secondary cost when I looked in 2016. That cost was just for the mirror.

Good viewing,

Dave

Problem solved I ordered direct from them. Don't know what shipping will be.

Thanks, to everyone that responded here!

Rough guess $700 or so for shipping, customs and foreign exchange fees.

There's an OTA in the CN classifieds that would be nice in my collection.

My VX10 is 24lbs with standard accessories. Roughly 25% lighter than Celestron/Orion based on advertised specs. Granted you are getting the longer tube.
