Hi everyone,

      I got my new NexStar 8E a few months ago. I've had a Criterion Dynascope RV-6 (6" f/8 Newtonian) since high school. I am wondering if the mirror (and a focuser I added) has any value. Can anyone recommend if the mirror or focuser has any value? Is it worth trying to sell? 

 

So the specifics are:

** 6" f/8 mirror, needs cleaned and re-aluminized, from my Criterion Dynascope RV-6

** Orion 13031 Basic 1.25-Inch Rack-and-Pinion Telescope Focuser

** Criterion Dynascope RV-6 OTA, secondary mirror, and focuser

That is outstanding telescope. I have 3. Wonderful optics. It would be a shame to part it out when you or someone else can enjoy it.

 

if it is complete and the drive works, value is about $150. 90% of the failure of the drive to track is due to degraded clutch disc. It can be replaced with a bar coaster. 
 

think about it before you decide to get rid of it. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

It has served me well for decades. But the tripod and mount are pretty rusted and the drive doesn't work. I was hoping that the mirror itself and maybe even the whole OTA assembly might have some value.

Post it as-is, for a piece of cork and some paint, someone will cherish it....

Is there still a Criterion group active anymore ?  Hope so. Someone somewhere would want it all. Give it some time. I already want it all. I have one from years past. Give it some time. BW
