[Jan De Ceuster]

I had not yet posted any of my lunar sketches on this forum. But there's a first time for everything.

 

This month, I managed to check two more Lunar 100 objects on my bucket list. The first was Montes Apenninus (L4). I find it very difficult to sketch mountainous regions of the moon. They never appear on sketch how I would like it.

 

The second was Grimaldi (L36). What is obvious for this object is the dark soil in comparison with the surrounding of this crater.

These are excellent sketches. Mountains and dome have always given me fits to sketch. You just need to remember you are sketching and you really cannot expect them to turn out like a photo.  Finest details are difficult and time consuming to sketch. I often just leave much detail out and focus on the parts of the sketch that are eye catching to me.

Your sketches here have fine tones and excellent shading. You must fell a sense of pride with these sketches, I would if they were mine.

Jan, your excellent sketches caught my eye for quite a while. The smoothness of your mare in your Grimaldi sketch looks so realistic, I have always found this to be difficult to execute and took me quite a while to be happy with a technique. 
Looking forward to more of your sketches.

Both these sketches are fantastic. I echo what Cindy said...your ability to create a smooth floor is impressive.

Hi all, thanks for the fine comments.
Cindy and Darren, I use pastel pencils on black paper. The crater floor and the surroundings are done with grey pastel that I blend first with a blending stump and secondly with my finger. To make the area of the floor somewhat darker I add some black pastel that I blend using the same technique.
