Hello everyone, first timer here, I'm getting my son a telescope for Xmas. I found a celestron 114 reflector telescope verrry lightly used locally and I can get it pretty cheap. I want a bag or case for it though. I am having a very hard time. Does anyone know a decent bag that would fit this? 24" tube about 4.5" diam we'll say 6 to be safe. And the tripod goes down to about 28"

Welcome to Cloudy Nights.  You might get a little more response in the Equipment sub rather than the Refractor sub, but here's a couple of ideas to help with your search.  These are large photographic equipment bags.

Or maybe you could pack the OTA separately from the tripod in two duffel bags.

Do you think something a little shorter would do. Tripod is supposedly 28 inches when collapsed

Hard to say without actually seeing the equipment.  28" sounds a little short for a tripod with a mount on it.  If you want a close fit you might want to wait until you have the equipment in hand.  Then you could lay it out and make your own measurements.  Exactly what model are you buying?  Maybe someone will have the same model and can make a measurement for you.
