Hello!

Anyone heard-seen-used this camera ?

Omegon Camera veTEC 533 C Color

As far as I can see is the same just like the ASI533MC Pro, only with different branding (and price, at least for Europe).

I'd also love to see a review of this camera. In terms of stats, it looks exactly the same as the 533MC Pro, but significantly cheaper. Does that mean it's missing something compared to the ZWO version?

I just bought this camera, but not yet received. I will try to write my impressions after I get it.

I had considered the ZWO ASI 533, but I have decided the bet on this Omegon, even though the sensor is the same, the software in the formware is probably quite different, but since we can change camera parameters anyway then in this respect i think it is ok.

My main fear is the quality and some driver compatibility, but also my first ZWO I had to return after a week due to TEC problems.

Hi, is there an update to how it is going? I am also looking at Omegon cameras. As far as I have been able to discover, they are rebranded Touptek, which other manufactors also use.

Quick update... I got the camera last thursday, it looks really nice, very good quality externally, at least better then my old ZWO ASI178.

On Thursday i had tried to shoot with it, but it was -24 degrees and it was very challenging, the mount and the computer (that I keep externally) did not work well. But I was able to have a couple of shots taken, no ampglow and it appeared quite clear (5 min), it worked well with the provided ASCOM driver. I had just one challenge, when the camera settings were with 8 bits some times the image did not appear, not sure why maybe something related to the computer, the connection, driver...etc, but when I set it to 14 bits (which I will be using anyway) I had no problems, I will try to shoot again in the next few days and update you guys.

I have added a quick unboxing here:

Looks very interesting!

I am thinking that this will be my step forward from my modded canon. In addition to that I’ve seen an adapter “Astronomik Adapter EOS-Clip / M48” so if it will possible to use my current clip in filters with this camera and my lenses, I’m just a click away from my purchase :-)

:-) as I am writing I am just imaging right now and I am strugling with the set, by default the ASCOM set for gain is 100 which is the limit, but then if I take 30 second exposure it gets totally blown, so right now I am just trying decreasing it little by little and testing everything else. So once I get this all figure out I will let you guys know.

Yes the camera is quite interesting.

I'm looking at both the 16000 (old sensor) and the 533. I like the bigger size of the 16k. But newer sensor is better. I don't know.

To combat cold hardware. I have it in a box with towels and warm water :)

Hey,

Last night was quite cold again -22C, but actually the whole gear performed quite well, the computer I had to put in a little carton box with some foam, and it worked out.
About the camera, it worked quite nicely, the only one thing that I changed from the "native" ASCOM drive configuration was the raw it size from 8 to 14 bits other then that nothing else, the gain I changed in SGP pro to 105 and it worked very well with 5 min exposures. I have attached here the settings and a link where you can download a few files of the Pleiades, Triangulum Galaxy and Spider Nebula, all of them are 5 min exposures at -20

https://drive.google...uE9?usp=sharing

I really like the camera, the shots were quite clear and amp glow free, I cannot say much about the cooling because the sensor was at -20 with no cooling :-), so I need to wait a better weather.

Thanks for sharing. Currently it is the 533 i'm looking at. The big question is if will be the zwo or omegon. It is quite a pricejump

As someone not used to these type of files and used to using DSLR. After stacking I see basically no nebulosity.

Yeah, think that there not enough exposures...maybe.

This is what I got with the Pleiades.

Yes, I had the same dilemma, I talked with the guys from Astroshot.eu and they told me that from ZWO I might get a better support if I find some software bugs, but I decided to try at the end if it doesn't work I can return.

So far so good, I will wait for better skies here and try to have as many exposures I can get.

Cheers

Today I had a contact with astroshop for the exact same reason: to find out if the camera is compatible with the Ekos (I use Astroberry at the moment).

The guy who responded back, informed me that he personally uses the same camera with a StellarMate without any issues.

Does that mean you're placing an order? I would love to hear about your experience.

I saw your thread on the indi forum when searching about the camera and there was one guy there saying he tried the camera on his Mac and using Ekos without success. That could be a Mac specific problem though. So if you place an order and try it, it would be great to hear about it. :)

After reviewing the melodasi's files from 533 and compare them with my current setup (Canon 77D modded) I was sold.

Especially the darks. (Left 533, right 77D. My Canon's dark says 12deg, when the ambient temp was -6deg, the lowest I've ever seen)

In addition with that, the astroshop's response for Raspberry and Ekos, made me to order it :-)

PS. I am gonna report back for sure. But at the moment I have to wait till 15/2 cause there is no stock.

PS2.

Omegon 533 = 854euro

ZWO 533 = 1118euro

So yeap, I took my chances :-)

There is also a RisingCam version of this camera at $900/€761:

https://www.aliexpre....4e9e243fCqqnFp

and Imageview at $9854€722 if that was not enough:

https://www.aliexpre....4240603aLMOoSj

What's interesting both above mentioned brands get positive feedback from CN users that have courage to buy them.

I ended up going with the ZWO version. I have had too many problems with bad support and don't wish to waste too much of clear sky time on stuff acting up. But lets see.

ZWO is great I almost bought it, but my adventure spirit spoke louder and I got the Omegon, so far so good even though the weather here is not helping.

"What do you hear?"

"Nothing but the rain, sir"

Just landed!

So far so good.

1. Balance  - Ok

2. Drivers setup etc. with Raspberry Pi, Astroberry, Ekos - Ok

3. Fan & cooler work ok. At least for the past 30 minutes the cooler is steady at -10. (I'm inside with +24).

Congratulations. One thing that I noticed with the my VeTEC 533 that was different with my ASI, was that the fan just starts when the cooling starts where with the ASI the fan starts everytime you plug the power
