Well, I wasn't exactly griping about the time.  When I handed the package over to the postal cleark it was noted that it would be delivered tomorrow, Thursday.  I was just saying that sending a package on a 1000 mile trip to get it delivered 145 miles away doesn't seem very efficient.

Two days considering the total number and varying sizes of packages whizzing around the country at any given time is pretty efficient ! You have seen too many pictures of way back when postal workers wore visors over their eyes had sleeve garters above the elbows and put packages in mail slots waiting to be picked up or delivered once the mail wagon horse was fed, lol !

Ok.  Now I'm griping.  This is not the only issue in very recent times that we've had with the USPS.

My niece is in UAB Hospital.  Major stroke and on a ventilator but knows what is going on around her.  The package contains eyeglasses which she hasn't had in a couple of weeks and some pads, pens, and a clipboard for writing sentences to her nurses.  Trivial items, but we wanted to get this to her and trusted the USPS to deliver what they promise and are paid to deliver.

After taking the scenic route through Birmingham on to South Carolina, North Carolina, Atlanta, and then back to Birmingham we get the following tracking result:

January 14, 2021
In Transit, Arriving Late
Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility.

Here's something interesting.  According to text messages that I received from the USPS the package left Atlanta TWICE last night (1/14).  Once at the 7:26pm time stated in the message above but it also left earlier at 6:31pm.  What'd they do....rip it in half and send it out in two shipments?

They seem to be sending thing all over the place, past the places where they are supposed to go.

When the USPS "efficient" organization goes belly-up I certainly hope the taxpayers of this country aren't saddled with bailing their retirement system out.  Apparently they don't know what to do with this package and just keep slinging it back and forth between themselves.flame.gif flame.gif flame.gif

I have seen this happen before. This is because the return address and the send address are about the same size, and because of this the scanning equipment gets confused. I’d suggest you call up your postmaster and tell them the problem.

Hi Intheswamp,

I am happy that your package was finally delivered.

FYI, I think the attitude of the post office staff  really depends on where you live. I frequent three post offices in my area and they have been more than helpful.

It's not as stupid as it seems. It arrived at the Birmingham distribution center, but the automatic parsing couldn't figure out the address, so it was sent to the Annex for manual processing, which of course caused a delay. After it was sorted out at the annex, it was returned to the main center.

Did the USPS know she was anxiously waiting in hospital for it, maybe they have a Red Rush dept ?
